The world’s second largest makers of PC processors may be facing a major data breach.
On Tuesday June 18, 2024, Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) said it was investigating a possible hacking incident in which some of the company’s data may have been stolen.
“We are aware of a cybercriminal organization claiming to be in possession of stolen AMD data,” said the company in a statement, according to Bloomberg. “We are working closely with law enforcement officials and a third-party hosting partner to investigate the claim and the significance of the data.”
According to The Cyber Express, the alleged hacker goes by the name of IntelBroker, and claimed on the “notorious” online BreachForum, that they had gain sensitive information from AMD’s databases including details on future products, firmware, specifications sheets, information about customers, source code, financial records, comprehensive employee data such a phonenumbers, job functions, full names, and much more.
IntelBroker shared samples of the alleged data online as proof of their claims.
According to CSO, IntelBroker is attempting to sell the stolen information, reportedly asking for “only XMR,” which is Monero, a cryptocurrency that is very popular in illicit transactions, due to its perceived untraceability.
IntelBroker is an increasingly notorious actor.
In May of this year, IntelBroker claimed to be behind a data breach at Europol.
Europol acknowledged the breach, however stating that, “no operational data from Europol has been compromised.”
