In a proposal, seen by Reuters Hamas has presented a proposal for ceasefire to mediators.
The proposal suggests that Hamas will release Israeli hostages provided Israel frees Palestinian prisoners. The initial exchange would see Hamas release female, elderly, and ill hostages as well as children in exchange of 700-1,000 Palestinian detainees.
The Israeli Prime Minister calls the group’s demands unrealistic, as Israel rejected the proposal on Friday, Reuters reports.
Late Thursday, the US-backed United Nations Security Council resolution to establish “an immediate and sustained cease-fire” in the war circulated in its final draft, Associated Press writes.
The draft “unequivocally supports international diplomatic efforts to establish an immediate and sustained cease-fire as part of a deal that releases the hostages, and that allows the basis for a more durable peace to alleviate humanitarian suffering”.
